I’m seeing PPL quotes in Ontario and BC hitting $20,000–$25,000 once you factor in fuel surcharges and instructor rates. Is anyone still finding 'affordable' training in the Prairies or Atlantic Canada?
I did my PPL in 2016. I quickly realized that i was better off buying a good cheap 172. (Anyone remember those?). I got to fly a ton. And the cost of the aircraft subsidized my training and flying for the next four years. It was the best decision I’ve ever made around anything with an engine.
I sold it late in 2020 for more than i paid into it. The “profit” paid almost exactly the cost of my instruction and fuel.
Ah the good old days.
If you know anyone under 19 looking to fly the Air Cadet hands out PPL scholarships to deserving folks. That’s what my oldest son did. Glider at 16. PPl the next summer. Best deal in the world for a motivated youth
