702 to 705?

FlapsUp

Student Pilot (Rank 2)
Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice and career guidance.

Here’s my situation:
I completed my CPL and Group 1 several years ago. After some time away from flying, I was able to get hired through networking and visiting operators in person. I’m currently flying 702 multi piston aircraft and have moved into the left seat. I also have the opportunity to upgrade to captain on a turbine single, which I plan to do.

My question is about long term career progression. Over the next 2–3 years, I’d like to be in a position where I can settle down and be home more. Ideally, I’d like to move from 702 into 705 (not necessarily Jazz), potentially to something like Porter on the E2. Is that a realistic path from 702? Or would it make more sense to move to a 703 or a regional airline sooner rather than later?

I mention Jazz only because I’ve interviewed there, but I’m hesitant due to concerns about getting stuck there long term.

Current experience:
  • 1,000 TT
  • 500 PIC
  • 400 MPIC
I know my total time isn’t very high yet, but with expected flying this year, I should be closer to the 1,500–1,700 TT range.

Any insight would be appreciated.

FlapsUp.

You seem to be in a good position and I really can’t speak to whether Porter would hire from 702, I suspect it would depend on the experience of other pilots in the pool.
As for getting stuck long term at Jazz, you could do worse, I’ll be retiring from an almost 30 year career from Jazz in 7-9 years depending on the ERP(Early retirement program), I do realize that it’s not the same company but if you were stuck long term, you’ll make a fairly decent living.
Also, if you were stuck long term it means something else, no one else would hire you, would you rather be stuck at a regional with a mature contract or some 702/703 operation?
