CRM and Human Factors is more often than not online anymore. This kills most of the dynamic that older classes used to have. There are a lot of fun and practical exercises that are no longer possible because of it.

Well said. I think we have lost more than we realize with training moving online.

I agree, it's all about checking the boxes in most cases.

I find CRM training immensely valuable. I have been flying since before it was invented and have seen it evolve from Transport Canada’s early efforts at “Pilot decision making” seminars, where an actual, real-life Transport Canada inspector would come to YOUR AIRLINE
to teach it, to the company-administered courses we have now.

In Canada, unlike certain other countries, we do not have mandatory formal leadership training or command-upgrade training when people are promoted to the left seat of an aircraft that has a crew. We are just expected to automatically be good leaders. The only thing we have that resembles some attempt to examine the principles of leadership is company-administered programs, which may consist of noth8ng more than an annual CRM presentation. I hate it when companies gloss over it or move it online. CRM training really works through discussion with your peers, and organized activities and a curated exploration of incidents in which CRM may have played a role. I personally think we need to take this shit seriously.

CRM course can either be incredibly valuable. Or a giant waste of time. Depends on the trainer, course material and even the other trainees.
