Finally a forum that works!

Thanks for creating this forum. Hopefully it takes off and grows into something valuable to Canadian pilots over time. While I won't mention the one I used before, I'll just say it's nice to have a forum that isn't full of disgusting ads even on company computers.

A secure forum that doesn't crash my computer trying to block 10,000 ads? I love it.
Thank god Avcanada didn't delete the thread before I saw it. I am sure it will spread through word of mouth as pilots are a bunch of hens anyways :)

Just once a week for you? Hah
Funny, it literally just went down now as I was on it, certainly happens multiple times per week for me, really depends on how many times I try to go on it!
We need more posters here, spread the word!

Love this forum so far, how do we get more people on here? I'd love to spam avcanada, but I can't get on there, ever. ugh. I'm spreading the word in my circles. Let's help Chris out and get things moving!

I certainly hope that this new forum benefits from some robust moderation and that people can appreciate some of the things that drove users off the old one. I have a great ad-blocker running so the adverts on it didn’t bother me much. It was the relentless petty squabbling, insults, and the political talk that had very little, if anything, to do with aviation, that drove me off. There was a time when I considered fellow aviators to be a pretty good example of a decently-educated group of professional, serious people, with their heads screwed on relatively securely and a more-or-less uniform moral makeup and level of intelligence. In my little corner of the world, 80% of my friends are also pilots and all an extremely decent group of men and women and I’m proud to be associated with them. I would like to think that’s representative of the industry. Keeping things light and professional, maybe a little humourous, and treating the forum as one would the dinner table- avoiding politics, religion, etc, would go a long way. Presently, admitting you go on “AvCanada” to other pilots is like admitting you like to beat off in the break-room. It would be nice if this new place didn’t turn out like that. I might actually think about using my real name, if it did.

Couldn’t agree more, it’s very disheartening over there, seems to be a lot of troll accounts..hoping it doesn’t happen here too!

Hey mine worked just fine, unless it's being attacked by spambot.
(thats why you currently get the cloudflare thing making sure you're human)

also ya guess it isn't new we have been around for almost 11 years.

Anyway welcome to aviationnorth.ca and if you like something on my site feel free to link it here I promise I won't threaten you with a lawsuit (true story)

PS I like this forum software layout I've tried several and wish I could change mine, but thats a huuuuuge PIA

Strong, fair-minded moderators are a big part of solving this issue. We also believe ideas should be freely shared without censorship. Political discussions are welcome, but they will be kept separate from the core focus of this forum: Canadian. Professional. Aviation.

A funny sidenote:

We chose this forum software because it has excellent tools for moderation and dealing with bad actors. One of those tools is the ability to discourage a user.

“Discouraged users may experience random delays or occasional system hiccups, designed to encourage disruptive users to move on and troll somewhere else.”

I’ll admit—I’m looking forward to using that one 😄

How do I get rid of the black background?
At bottom of the page select the gear icon. You can choose light or dark background. Right now the option is reversed… selecting dark will give you a light background.

We are currently working on site color themes and this will return to its logical setting in the next few days.
