I’ve been a WestJet Teal/Silver member for years, but with the recent service cuts to Eastern Canada, I’m thinking of switching to AC. Is the 'WestJet Dollars' system better?
Westjet points are only ever going to be worth 1 cent per point. Their top tier status (platinum) doesn’t compare to what you can get with the air Canada status and such things as e upgrades/ priority rewards.. Aeroplan points are pretty consistently worth 2 cents per point, and it’s easier to get more value out of them if you book points for business class. If your company is paying for your flights, AC’s new status structure will likely be better for earning status in 2026.
I think you're best just looking at which airline works best for you based on their routes. I gave up on WJ after their cuts in western Canada, and the growing ridiculousness of the companion voucher scheme. They have improved it somewhat recently, but not quite enough to make it worthwhile IMO. And the current refit of their cabins is just a very bad joke. Their previous economy was barely tolerable.
